Just a short boat ride from the main island lies one of Bonaire’s most beautiful and untouched places: Klein Bonaire. This small, uninhabited island is famous for its powder-white beaches, crystal-clear turquoise water, and incredible snorkeling.
If you’re visiting Bonaire, a trip to Klein Bonaire is an absolute must. From relaxing on the beach to exploring vibrant coral reefs, it’s the perfect tropical escape for a day.

A Protected Natural Paradise
Klein Bonaire sits just 800 meters off the west coast of Bonaire and is part of the protected Bonaire National Marine Park. Because the island is uninhabited and protected, nature here remains beautifully preserved.
There are no hotels, restaurants, or beach bars on Klein Bonaire. What you will find instead are pristine beaches, swaying palm trees, and some of the clearest water in the Caribbean.
The most famous beach is No Name Beach, a stunning stretch of soft white sand that looks like it belongs on a postcard. It’s the perfect spot to swim, sunbathe, and simply enjoy the peaceful island atmosphere.
Incredible Snorkeling Right from the Beach
One of the highlights of visiting Klein Bonaire is the snorkeling. Just a few fin kicks from the shore, you’ll find healthy coral reefs teeming with marine life.
Expect to see colorful tropical fish, parrotfish, angelfish, and often even sea turtles gliding through the water. The reef surrounding the island forms part of the protected marine park, which helps keep the underwater ecosystem thriving.
For many visitors, snorkeling at Klein Bonaire becomes one of the most memorable experiences of their entire trip.

How to Get to Klein Bonaire
Since the island is uninhabited, the only way to reach it is by boat. Water taxis depart several times per day from Kralendijk, the main town on Bonaire.
Two of the most popular water taxi services are Karels Beach Bar Water Taxi and Epic Water Taxi. The ride takes about 15–20 minutes and offers beautiful views of Bonaire’s coastline along the way.
Most boats drop visitors directly at No Name Beach, where a small shaded area with picnic tables is available.
What to Bring for Your Day Trip
Because there are no facilities on Klein Bonaire, it’s important to come prepared. We recommend bringing:
- Plenty of water
- Snacks or lunch
- Reef-safe sunscreen
- Snorkel gear
- A hat and towel
Shade is limited, so arriving early is always a good idea.
A Special Place for Sea Turtles
Klein Bonaire is also an important nesting site for sea turtles. Several species, including green turtles and hawksbill turtles, use the island’s beaches to lay their eggs.
During nesting season, parts of the beach may be protected to ensure the turtles can nest safely. If you’re lucky, you might even spot turtles while snorkeling just offshore.
